Start with the exact artifact
Identify the model version and repository, then read its published license and model card. A model family name can cover artifacts with different terms. An available inference endpoint does not by itself grant rights to redistribute the weights or use every output commercially.
Read the conditions at the source
Licenses can define use restrictions, attribution or redistribution conditions. A directory’s license field is source-reported metadata and can be missing or outdated. Follow the source link for the actual terms and obtain appropriate review for your intended use.
Track the deployment configuration
Record the artifact, revision, provider, quantization and service terms in your deployment documentation. Repository downloads and likes measure repository activity, not production inference traffic. Keep these signals separate when comparing open models.
